Spring is Rebirth

Spring is a time for rebirth, hope, rejuvenation and restoration. It’s a feeling of waking from a long sleep. A time to shake off the winter blues and get your fingers in the dirt! A time to leave reflections of the past behind and focus on each day with a fresh perspective. Spring is my favorite season. I love watching the new growth poke tiny leaves up through the dead fall leaves I’ve left to protect them over winter. Each spring, I always hold my breath a bit until the plants emerge, wondering if my friends will come back. To my delight, they always do! Every day is a celebration as the plants unfurl and expand quickly. They change radically with each passing day during the early season. It is so fun to go out each day and look for signs of life where once there was nothing and then suddenly, glimpses of green appear! On this last day of March, yarrow, evening primrose, lavender, french tarragon, stonecrop, parsley, oregano, thyme, cilantro, bloodroot, wild bergamot, echinacea, sage, mints, St. John’s Wort, german chamomile, sweet flag, nettles, elderberry, comfrey, dandelion, asters, feverfew, motherwort, bay laurel, fennel, wild geranium, strawberries, marshmallow, valerian, hyssop, wormwood, gingko, lilac, and red clover are all present and accounted for! There are more to come but these early herbs are a joy to behold!
